Help needed in Ecuador clinic

Would you consider helping this year in Ecuador at the Shell Hospital in the foothills of the Andes Mountains?   Staffing is needed from August forward.  Currently this program has grown rapidly and is well equipped for any US ophthalmologist to help out. Spanish is helpful but not required.  A bilingual Ecuadorian tech is present full time to assist you while you help out.  An Ecuadorian from the area will begin training as an ophthalmologist this year to return to the clinic.

The hospital is run by HCJB (www.hcjb.org) and is currently staffed by 2 family doctors, 3 general surgeons and one ophthalmologist.  A full time ophthalmology presence has been established since August 2010.  Althought it is still in the early phases, incredible progress has been made with the support of many doctors and generous donations.

The clinic is now fully equipped with 3 lanes, phoropters, slit lamps, a YAG laser, diode laser and small optical.  The OR is equipped with a Zeiss microscope and 2 different phaco machines.  It is fully equipped with instruments and supplies for phaco, MSICS, shunt valves, corneal transplants and more.

The hospital is needing someone to help with the clinic and to teach their 3rd year ophthalmology resident, Elisee.  French isn’t necessary, but feeling comfortable doing extracapsular or MSICS cataract surgery is important.

If you have availability for 2 weeks to a month, please contact Robyn or send us a reply for questions.

Teaching in Afghanistan
noor small
The Tom Little Hospital in Kabul is looking for a few good ophthalmologists to teach the ophthalmologists in Afghanistan.
Over all these years NOOR has established and provided eye care in the whole of Afghanistan, set up facilities to train eye care professionals at all levels and has partnered with the Government of Afghanistan in handing over programs well established.
There are positive things happening in Afghanistan! Men, women and children’s eye sight is improved, blind people receive surgery and can see again. We thank God for bringing light to Afghanistan through NOOR and we thank you for all your support.
